Mersea Island Park Run

After months of organising and planning, the first official park run took place on Saturday 17th December.

Unlike our pilot run the weekend before we were not blessed with blue skies and sunshine however that did not deter the masses as an impressive 195 runners turned up to take part.

The course is 2 and a half laps around the beautiful Cudmore Grove with a mixture of grass and trails through some woodland.  The route is suitable for dogs and we had 5 lovely pooches run with their owners as well as a pushchair runner who found the route more than suitable for his buggy.

The first runner home was Angus Holford visiting from usual park run to cross the finish line in 16 minutes and 24 seconds.  Laura Shrewbridge from Colchester was the first lady home in 19 minutes and 13 seconds.  A couple of outstanding times to set our course records.

Not everyone was out chasing times and there were numerous people enjoying the fresh air and walking the course.  The atmosphere and support by all runners, spectators and volunteers really finished off a perfect morning.

Park Run is a free event that is on every week at 9am, simply register with park run and come along!  Hope to see you soon.
